At the origin of brass bands, we find the English military bands. Indeed, they were mainly composed of brass. It was not until the early nineteenth century was born the brass band as we practice it today. It can be defined as a brass band cylindrical-conical bore (like the horn or euphonium) which are added trombones (brass cylindrical bore) and percussion. The first documented brassband is an English orchestra: the Stalybridge Old Band founded in 1809. As shown in the film Brassed Off ( Brassed Off ), the brass band movement developed particularly in the mining center of England in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth as a way to escape a few hours of an extremely difficult career. Today, there are brass bands throughout Europe. In France, the movement is fairly represented in particular by Paris Brass Band (double champion of France and eighth at the European Championship in 2013), the Brass Band Nord-Pas-de-Calais or the Brass Band Æolus.
